About this holiday

Armistice Day on 11 November marks the armistice signed in 1918 that ended fighting on the Western Front in World War I. Observed as Remembrance Day across the Commonwealth and as a public holiday in France and Belgium, it honours those who died in war, traditionally with a silence at 11 a.m.
