About this holiday

Mawlid an-Nabi commemorates the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad, observed on the 12th day of Rabi' al-Awwal in the Islamic lunar calendar (a day earlier in some traditions). Celebrations range from public processions and decorated mosques to quiet religious gatherings, and the Gregorian date shifts about 11 days earlier each year.
